For the 2016/2017 season opening, we went to Obertauern in Austria. The unique location of Obertauern ski area allows for 160 ski days a year and it is said to be one of the snow-richest ski areas of Alps. Obertauern is often referred as Snow-Bowl because the valley shape that looks just like a bowl. Location and general
The small town Obertauern is located in the Austrian Alps, about 100 km south of the city Salzburg. You can ski here from beginning of December till May also because of its high altitude of 1664 m above sea-level.
How to get there
For guests from abroad, the Salzburg city airport is the closest airport to get to Obertauern. For transportation from the airport, shuttleservice or individual transfer will bring you within 1,5h to the Snow-Bowl. The area is generally easy to reach by car since it is close to the A10 highway.
Ski Area – Snow Bowl
The ski area is called snow bowl because the valley’s shape similarity to bowl.
Obertauern offers variety of slopes for beginners and experienced skiers and snowboarders. The area consists of a total of 26 lifts which are connected throughout the valley. The red and green Obertauern-Route will bring you around the Snow Bowl and will help you to find your favorite route.

Tip: Every Monday and Thursday is night skiing in Obertauern. The Edelweissbahn brings you up the mountain from 19:00 till 22:00. More information can be found here.

Tipp: Selective tickets allow you to ski or snowboard five days out of seven cost 188€-217€. That gives you more flexibility if you are not planning to ski every day.
